Our Logo Story
The logo of Craylands School proudly depicts a bottle kiln, a symbolic representation of the cement works that once thrived in Swanscombe during the 19th and 20th centuries. This distinctive structure, known as Aspdin's Kiln, is characterised by its circular, bee-hive shape constructed entirely of brick. Inside, it houses a dome-shaped chamber crowned by a cylindrical chimney.
Situated adjacent to the renowned Swanscombe Heritage Park, famous worldwide for its remarkable discoveries of Early Man, Craylands School stands as a testament to the area's rich historical and archaeological significance. Swanscombe is notably one of just two locations in Britain where actual human remains from this ancient period have been unearthed. Among these discoveries is the Swanscombe Skull, found on separate occasions in 1935, 1936, and 1955, comprising three distinct pieces of the same remarkable artifact.
