The Craylands School Online Safety

Online Safety Information

In today's digital world, children and young people have fully embraced new technologies for research, education and entertainment. These tools offer incredible opportunities to enhance and enrich their lives, both at school and at home. However, alongside the many benefits, there are also risks that parents and educators need to be aware of. As with any other aspect of life, children can be vulnerable when using the internet and they may unknowingly expose themselves to potential dangers.

At The Craylands School, we are committed to ensuring that our students stay safe online. On this page, you will find resources and information to help you and your child navigate the digital world securely.

Our Child Protection Policy

Our comprehensive policy outlining how we protect children at school, including online safety measures.

Keeping Your Child Safe Online

Simple Rules

To help ensure your child's safety while using the internet, consider implementing the following simple rules:

Always ask for permission before using the internet.
Only use websites chosen together with a parent or a child-friendly search engine.
Only email people they know; consider setting up an address book.
Ask for permission before opening an email from someone they don’t know.
Avoid using internet chat rooms.
Do not use their real name when playing games online; consider creating a nickname.
Never give out personal information such as home address, phone numbers or school details.
Never arrange to meet someone they have 'met' online.
Only use a webcam with people they know.
Immediately report anything online that makes them feel uncomfortable.

Rules for Using the Internet at School

Our school has specific rules and guidelines to ensure safe internet usage within the school environment. We encourage students to follow these rules strictly to maintain a secure and positive online experience.
If you are being bullied, or you are not ready to make a report to CEOP, you can talk to Childline anonymously online or on the phone - No worry is too big or too small.

Online Safety Resources

Childnet Resources - Stories

Engage your children with these stories to teach them about online safety; this is a good way to start important conversations about the digital world. By discussing these stories together, you can help your child understand potential risks and empower them to make safe choices online. These narratives not only educate but also provide practical examples that children can relate to, making the lessons both memorable and effective.

CEOP video links

Below are two video links from CEOP, representing different age groups. One series, designed for 8-10 year olds, helps them learn to spot pressuring and manipulative behaviour online and stay safe from other risks they might encounter. The other series, aimed at 4-7 year olds, equips them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond safely to online risks.
